Slow Beats Stopped Any Day

Are you intimidated by Jillian Michaels, P90X, and Insanity?

Are you overwhelmed by the plethora of workout choices? So much so you don't do anything?

It's like the story of the "The Dog In The Farmer's Well". The dog managed to get stuck in the well. The farmer could not see any solution for helping the dog out. He decided to bury the dog. (Sad, I know.)

The farmer began to shovel dirt into the well. The dog was able to shake off the dirt and slowly pack it down. Eventually, the farmer shoveled enough dirt that the dog was able to walk out of the well. (Hooray!)

I can't even imagine how long that took.

What if the farmer had used a dump truck? The dog wouldn't have been able to shake of the overwhelming amount of dirt dumped on it and would've been buried.

The farmer's need to go fast would have stopped the dog in it's tracks.

Don't let the intensity and fast paced world of exercise overwhelm you.

It's as simple as putting one foot in front of the other. Seriously.

Walking is slow. So, what? Slow beats stopped. Walking still allows you to lap everyone stuck on the couch. Walking is a wonderful way to start being physically active. Walking helps strengthen bones, boosts your mood, improves balance, and helps control your weight.

I'm not saying you don't need to exercise. You do!

We, all of us, need to exercise at least 30 minutes 3 days a week.

What I'm saying you don't need to start at some insane pace and fall on your face.

Start slow. Make a daily walk part of your life. Grow as you go.

How long and where are you going to walk today? Help hold yourself accountable by leaving a comment below.

I'll let you know. I am walking with Meg, after dinner for 30 minutes, on the bayou. I hope to see you out there.

I want to thank Jeff Goins for the 'Slow Down Challenge". He has reminded me of the beauty of slowing down, smelling the roses, and that great things come to those that work and wait. He also helped me overcome my feelings of not being a writer. Check out his website for more great things from Jeff-  goinswriter.com.
